Celebration Sunday Worship

Celebration is one of three worshipping communities that comprise Harderwyk Ministries in Holland, MI. Dr William Lindner serves as Campus Pastor. With a "vibrantly classic" worship style marked by strong congregational singing and organ, Celebration encourages everyone to join in the journey of faith by being found in, formed by and following Jesus.

This Week's Sermon Information:
Sermon: The King Arrives: Let The Revolution Begin!
Text: Mark 6:30–46
Key Verse: Mark 6:34 - When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
Sermon Snapshot: Don't picture this miracle occurring in a picnic sort of setting. People are angry and feel justified in their anger. They are ready for someone to light the fuse and lead the charge of their righteous vengeance. Jesus sees instead sheep without a shepherd and invites them to receive the provision of the Good Shepherd, the True & Perfect Passover Lamb that only He is.

Music Specials:

Jesus Sends
Mark 6: 6-13, 30

This Sunday, we continue our series titled, "Who's this Guy?" where we will be working our way chapter by chapter through the Gospel of Mark.  Each week, we will explore Mark's portrayal of Jesus as the Messiah King. This week, we consider Mark 6 when Jesus sends out the Twelve to carry on his mission to the surrounding villages.  Before they head out, Jesus offers some instructions that offer some insight to the challenges that lie ahead - challenges that continue for disciples today.  Jesus continues to send out his disciples in Mission - how will we navigate those challenges as they come our way?

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday Dinner - 5:00 to 6:00 pm in the Great Room of the Red Brick Church Building
There will be no charge for this meal, but donations are still accepted.
Menu: Soups, Breads, PB & J, Salad Bar, and Ice Cream. Gluten Free options are available.

All are invited to join us in the Sanctuary for a brief Ash Wednesday Worship experience.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent.  An Ash Wednesday service seeks to remind Christians that we were formed from dust and to dust our bodies will return – to remind us that we are spiritually, emotionally, morally, intellectually, and relationally fragile beings. Ashes, which symbolize death and repentance, are placed on the worshiper's foreheads in the form of the cross with the officiate saying, Remember that thou art dust, and to dust, you shall return.

Children, Youth Activities, and Adult Groups will not meet this week to allow everyone to attend the worship service together.

Jesus and Our Storms
Mark 4:35-41

We all face storms in our lives that leave us feeling powerless, and we sometimes wrestle with who Jesus is in those moments.  What we see in this story and the stories in chapter 5 is that Jesus has the ability to bring us peace through His compassionate power.

Sermon: The King Arrives: Why Are We With These People?!?
Text: Mark 5:21-43
Key Verse: Mark 5:36 - But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.”
Sermon Snapshot: In rapid succession, the disciples get a front-row seat to see Jesus demonstrate his power over Nature, Evil, Sickness and Death. To get into that position, those disciples had to follow Jesus out of their comfort zone - especially their religiously defined comfort zone! - and stretch their understanding of exactly WHO Jesus is and what He can do. Don't think it will be any different for yourself.

Invitation Into Something Different
Mark 4:1-20

When Jesus taught, He was inviting people to think differently, wrestle with and wonder about what He was saying, and ultimately to be formed by His words in relationship with Him.  Some would engage and some wouldn’t.  As we look at what is known as the parables about the parables this week, we will experience first-hand Jesus’ teaching for ourselves and be invited into something different.

Communion Sunday
We do not come to this supper claiming any merit in ourselves. On the contrary, we come testifying that we seek our salvation apart from ourselves and instead, in Jesus Christ. Form for the Celebration of the Lord's Supper II (1964)

This Week's Sermon Information:
Sermon: The King Arrives: He Can Do What?
Text: Mark 4:1-2, 30-41 (NIV)
Key Verse:Mark 4:41 - They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Sermon Snapshot: As his notoriety grows, Jesus now begins to teach using parables - avoiding the distractions of his day so he can stay focused on the Kingdom of God. But don't think he is simply a wise, moral teacher who adeptly uses nature insights to point to matters of the Kingdom! He also commands nature itself, causing his disciples to ask again, "Who is this man?!?"

Sermon: The King Arrives: What to Make of This Man?
Text: Mark 3:20–35
Key Verse: Mark 3:27 - Let me illustrate this further. Who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.
Sermon Snapshot: Jesus arrives on the scene with quite a stir, so the question is, "What are we to make of this man?" We'll look at two answers from the text and one from our own moment, as well as weigh the claims of Jesus Himself. That is the question for us each and all: What are we to make of this man Jesus?
