Hurricane Relief - Jamaica

A small team from Harderwyk joined 10 others from West Michigan at the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf (CCCD) in Jamaica. This team worked hard by cleaning up the CCCD Montego Bay campus and further assessing the damage that was caused by the Hurricane Melissa.  Twenty others from the 3 other CCCD campus’ in Jamaica joined our team in this work.  By God’s grace and strength, we were able to do some significant deconstruction and cleanup, and CCCD now has a better idea of what kinds of trips and help will be needed going forward. As a developing nation, this hurricane has not just impacted their country, it has crippled it.  Not one of the nearly 3 million people escaped its impact.  The current damage costs are projected to be $8 billion USD, and the impact on agriculture and tourism is a significant blow to their GDP (gross domestic product).  Not to mention, right now, for the average person, the loss/significant limitation of running water, electricity, food, gas, shelter, and so on.  To make matters worse, churches and schools that often provide resources and shelters are also damaged or gone, especially on the western half of the island. Through our partnership with Pat Bloemendaal and the CCCD in God’s mission we can not only help show God’s love to the deaf community in Jamaica, but we can also show God’s love to this nation in a small but tangible way.

Hurricane Relief - North Carolina

The first trip to Asheville following Hurricane Helene, our team worked with the Dream Center, organizing relief supplies, assembling generators, and partnering with the Big Ivy community, where we mucked out houses, removed insulation, and gathered materials to be used for rebuilding. Two other teams went to Black Mountain, NC, over the next several months. We partnered with Hammer & Heart to provide home repairs to families in the Swannanoa Valley who were unable to complete repairs and maintain their homes in a livable condition following the hurricane.

Ireland Mission Trip

We served alongside Irish Christians in a variety of compassionate programs from creating care packages for needy new mothers, to getting our hands dirty in the building remodel happening at the local church. We learned about Christianity in an ever-increasing secularized Ireland; through workshops, site visits, and guided discussions raising our cultural awareness and gaining helpful insights that will inform our own American Christian experience. We had fun while enjoying the Irish landscapes with trips to desired sites, shopped in the bustling city of Dublin, and checked out famous landmarks.

honduras Mission Trip

Harderwyk Ministries has been sending teams to support Jake and Rachel Compaan at Abundant Life Christian School since 2010, beginning our work in LaUnion and most recently serving in Yamaranguila.  Over the years we have worked on building of classrooms, offices, restrooms, sports courts, and during our trip in June we helped with the preparation and building of a new nurses’ office on the school campus, allowing the school to meet one of the criteria for their certification in the country.  We were also able to spend time painting one of the homes at Talitha Cumi, a neighboring ministry that serves children and also the property the houses our teams when we are in Yamaranguila.
