Ron Myrick (Fusion) is home from the hospital and is feeling much better. Thanks for your thoughts and
prayers.

Jan Knott (Fusion) underwent surgery at Blodgett hospital to relieve the nausea caused by her treatments. She
and Steve are happy to report that she has completed her course of Chemo and is now focusing on regaining her strength and health! She was released from the hospital on Thursday. Please continue to prayer for Jan during this difficult stretch. We have given her a prayer pager for the next few weeks. The number is 713-1464. Let her know that you are praying for her by giving the pager a call.

Rick Sieracki (Fusion) continues to do well in his recovery. He is now working at Meijer and continues to ask
for your prayers.

Todd Cooper's (Watershed) surgery went well last Friday. The benign tumor was about the size of a baseball. They had to put a plate in his arm in order to reinforce it due to bone loss. He should heal just fine and find his much desired pain relief (he has had pain in his shoulder for about 3 years). Thanks for your prayers.


CRWRC Disaster Response Services
is involved in Needs Assessment in Bartholomew County, IN due to flooding in Spring 2008. Jim and Sharon Van De Vusse (Celebration) will be on a Needs Assessment team from August 16 - August 30. Pray for safety, good health, a meaningful experience with opportunities to touch and give hope to hurting people in this relief ministry.

Pray for Nick Petroelje, 16 year old son of Dave and Gwen (Fusion), brother of Jamie and grandson of Glenn & Marilyn (Celebration) who is recovering from a self inflicted gun shot wound.

Praise God with Andy Page and family (Watershed), his mother, Marcia, received news that her cancer is gone! Continue pray for her strength while she completes her radiation treatments.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY UPDATE We are getting closer! We still need to raise $18,727. You are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, August 25 at 5:15 pm on site at 3175 Trinity Woods Ct. (south off Riley between 132nd and 128th). Look for further announcements and e-mails about sign-ups for the work schedule.
LAKESIDERS are going to Shipshewana to hear David Pendleton, a comedian, on Sept. 10. We will depart at 7:30 AM from Evergreen parking lot. Price is $61 for Evergreen members or $71 for non members. This includes: Transportation, Amish family style lunch, and Theater Performance. Call Evergreen Commons (355-5155) and have your credit card ready to reserve your spot. Tell them you are with the group from Harderwyk. Space is limited.

BEAST FEAST Saturday Sept. 6 hosted by the Men's Ministry. Guys come have a great day with us; there will be food, fun and prizes. Dads, give your wives a Saturday off and take the kids (boys and girls). If you are interested in helping,

FUSION INVITATION: Pastor Philip Rose and Heidi would like to invite members of the Fusion community to an open house at their home on August 24 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. Their address is 1997 West. Lakewood Blvd. (In Pine Ridge Estates, west of Tiffany Shores and north off Lakewood.)
BOOK CLUB will resume meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:45 pm in the church library. The book being discussed on September 9th is The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. Contact Mollie (886-0632) with questions.
COUNCIL UPDATE: A letter was sent to every household late last week regarding the upcoming vote on August 24th. If you have not received the letter, please check the Info Centers or the church office.

SEA TO SEA RALLY: The 2008 Sea to Sea Bike Tour has arrived in Grand Rapids. Come celebrate all that God has been doing through the tour to end the cycle of poverty. Tonight at Fifth Third Ballpark the activities begin at 2 p.m., with a worship service at 3 p.m. If you didn't get a chance to order tickets, there are some left. Stop by the box office window at the park to obtain tickets.
MISSION EMPHASIS HYMN SING: The Community is invited to come to South Olive CRC for their annual Mission Emphasis Hymn Sing on Sunday September 14 at 8 pm. The song leader will be Jim DeJong. Come and enjoy a time of fellowship in song. A free will offering will be taken for the South Olive Missions Building Team.
LAMENT FOR A SON: Central Wesleyan Church will host professor, speaker and author, Nicholas Wolterstoff on Monday, August 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. In his book, Lament for a Son, he describes his grieving process after the death of his 25 year old son, who died in a mountain climbing accident. Lament for a Son avoids easy answers about suffering. Dr. Wolterstoff's talk about his struggle will help those who cannot find words for their own grief. The event is free of charge and open to the public. For more information, call 395-3138.

NURSERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to serve on a nursery rotation (every 6-7 weeks) in the Red Brick nursery on Sunday morning during the 9:30 services. If you'd like to be part of this team, contact Bethany Mulder (494-9218).

 

SCHEDULE COORDINATOR FOR RED BRICK NURSERY Children's Ministry is looking for a schedule coordinator for the Red Brick Building nursery. This task involves scheduling the Sunday morning nursery volunteers, checking in at the nursery each week to be sure volunteers have arrived, and inviting potential volunteers to join the nursery team. Contact Bethany Mulder (494-9218), or Beth Jewett (ext 107 or beth@harderwyk.com) if interested.

 

RIPTIDE/UNDERTOW RAFTING TRIP contact Ty (chap@harderwyk.com or x113) if you are interested in going on the overnight float trip down the Muskegon River on August 24-25.

 

CHRISTIAN SCHOOL TUITION ASSISTANCE: If you are in need of tuition assistance for Holland Christian Schools, fill out a Tuition Assistance Form, which can be found in the church office. The amount of assistance depends on the number of applicants. Completed application forms can be placed in Gordon VanWoerkom's mailbox in the church library.

ALTERNATIVE SUSPENSION PROGRAM ASSISTANT NEEDED: Neighbors Plus Alternative Suspension Program is an alternative school day for suspended West Ottawa middle school students held at the Anchor. Up to six suspended students are tutored, coached on behavior changes and complete community service while here each day. A part-time assistant is needed for the 08-09 school year staff team to work 2-3 days per week. For a copy of the job description contact Sherrie (x103 or sherriek@harderwyk.com ).
GREAT ESCAPE SUMMER CAMP finished the 10 weeks of camp this week and had a great summer! There were a record 110 campers at the Great Escape this summer keeping the 8 counselors and program director Mollie Osborn busy all summer. Thanks to everyone at Harderwyk who helps camp run smoothly as a volunteer, by giving a tour, bringing cup cakes, making lunch or cleaning up, it was another great year!
PARK2PARK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: race marshals directing runners, lead motorcyclists for the ½ marathon, and registration helpers are needed for race day on September 27, starting at 7:30 a.m. Contact Sherrie (x103 or sherriek@harderwyk.com) if you are interested!
KIDS HOPE VOLUNTEES ARE NEEDED: As we begin our 11th year at Lakeshore Elementary, we are looking for additional volunteers for this life-changing ministry.
MENTORS - If you can remember a child's name, be faithful and show up once a week, remind your student that you are only there for them, and believe in that little person, you can be a KIDS HOPE mentor.
PRAYER PARTNERS - If you believe in the power of prayer and if it is an active spiritual discipline in your everyday life, we need you to commit to praying for a child/mentor relationship.
PRAYER PARTNER COORDINATOR: Be a part of the Leadership Team. Responsibilities include recruiting prayer partners, matching them with mentors, communicate prayer concerns and joys along with other KH stories to the communities of Harderwyk.

DOMINICAN MISSION TRIP: The team, consisting of Jared Getz, Heather Laninga, Kammy Kessler, Karen Schippers, Ed deVries, Derek deVries and Kyle Groen left yesterday, and will be gone until August 23. Please keep the prayers flowing: for safety, for good health, for stamina, and for blessings to abound amongst the team, as well as those people whom God puts in their path! Upcoming team fundraiser:
Car Wash, Friday, August 22, from 3-7 PM, Anchor Parking, prior to the Function.
